game of the year, and for many, this also means hosting or attending a Super
Bowl party. It's no secret that Super Bowl shindigs tend to offer some of the
unhealthiest party foods around, from fat-laden chips, dips, and Buffalo wings
to pizza and beer. But there's no need to derail your diet this Super Bowl
Sunday! Just prepare South Beach Diet-friendly versions of your favorite
celebratory football fare.
Chips and Dip
Bowl parties are famous for having fatty chips and heavy dips. Instead of
filling up on potato chips and onion dip, enjoy our far healthier
Tex-Mex Bean Dip with Baked Tortilla Chips. This
savory party snack replaces the usual greasy chips with baked whole-wheat
tortilla chips and uses reduced-fat cream cheese instead of sour cream. Hot
salsa, chili powder, and ground cumin give the dip an extra flavor kick. If
you're on Phase 1, have fresh-cut veggies with the bean dip enjoy this Spinach and Artichoke Dip.
may be Phase 2-friendly, but we all know that game day popcorn tends to be
smothered in butter or coated with caramel. But you won't be
missing these traditional versions when you try our Peppery
Cheese Popcorn. This simple recipe melts freshly grated Parmesan
cheese in the hot popcorn and gets a boost of flavor from butter-flavored
cooking spray and a dash of ground pepper and salt. On Phase 1, try this Spicy
Nut Mix. The roasted pecans, walnuts, and almonds take well to the
piquant flavors of ground cinnamon, ginger, cumin, cloves, and chili powder.
Super Bowl party would be complete without a plate of spicy, Buffalo-style
chicken. On the South Beach Diet, dark-meat chicken, which includes the legs,
wings, and thighs, should be avoided because of its higher fat content. But we

they feature a savory combination of creamy goat cheese, baby spinach, and plum
epic game day calls for a celebratory toast! If you're on Phase 1, alcohol
(including beer and wine) is off-limits, so stick to sugar-free sodas, flavored
waters, vegetable juice blends, diet tonic, club soda, seltzer (with lime), or
water. But if you're on Phase 2 or 3, you can enjoy a modest amount of alcohol,
like red or white wine and light beer. It is recommended that women limit their
