Johnson City, TN
After becoming a father to four children, Jason realized that if he continued following his unhealthy eating habits, he might not be around to see them grow up. Tipping the scale at 361 pounds, he was at risk for life-threatening diseases and all the extra weight was damaging to his health. So Jason decided to change his life around and he consulted his doctor, who recommended that he follow the South Beach Diet.
“Because of my weight, I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and sleep apnea—all very serious health problems that could shorten your life. I decided that it was time for a change, and I started following the South Beach Diet and a regular exercise routine,” Jason says.
Before Jason started the South Beach Diet, he did not have any sense of portion control or know how to make healthy food choices; he ate everything he wanted and did not give a second thought to how many calories, fat, and sugar he was consuming at each meal. And while South Beach Dieters don’t need to count calories, it’s important to recognize calories do count and that it’s important to pay attention to food labels and to read the ingredients in each product carefully.
“It was common for me to eat a half gallon carton of ice cream in one sitting,” Jason says. “I also did not exercise. But since I’ve been following the diet, I’ve learned how to watch my portions and to read food labels carefully.”
Today, Jason weighs 200 pounds and has learned how to make healthier food choices. To satisfy his sweet tooth, he enjoys sugar-free chocolate pudding mixed with some natural peanut butter and topped with a drizzle of sugar-free chocolate syrup.
“I learned how to make healthy swaps for my favorite foods that aren’t South Beach Diet-friendly. For example, if I start craving a Big Mac, I would go buy lean ground beef, whole-wheat buns, lettuce, and tomatoes, and prepare a healthy burger instead of heading to the nearest drive thru,” Jason says.
In addition, Jason has become more active; he enjoys lifting weights at the gym and pushing his body to its limits. Because he exercises regularly, Jason says he has more energy and renewed his body image confidence.
“I am no longer ashamed of how I look. I actually like having my photo taken now. Losing weight was difficult at first because it was a major life change for me, but I stuck with it and it paid off,” Jason says.
“It was surprising how fast and easy it was to not only lose weight but also keep it off while still being able to enjoy my favorite foods. I really like the simplicity of the South Beach Diet. It’s so much easier to follow than all the other diets that require you to count carbs or points in order to be successful.”
“I love having a serving of sugar-free chocolate pudding with a tablespoon of natural peanut butter and drizzling some sugar-free chocolate syrup on top.”
“I really like weight lifting. I seem to work up more of a sweat with it, which makes me feel good. I feel like I am really pushing my body to its limit.”
Effective Weight-Loss Strategy
“I have advised friends and family who have seen my transformation and asked me about how I did it to join the South Beach Diet Online. Cutting out refined sugars and incorporating vegetables into your diet is a healthy start. From there, just follow the eating guidelines on the South Beach Diet site to help you make good food choices and change your unhealthy habits.”
“I have gained self-confidence. I am no longer ashamed of how I look. I actually like having my photo taken now. And I no longer worry about people wondering, ‘How did he get that woman.’”
