Lost 20 pounds!
With a petite 5'2" body frame, Jen E. was tipping the scale at an unhealthy 146 pounds. The Assistant District Attorney who hails from Pittsburg, PA, also has a family history of diabetes, increasing her risk of developing a number of different obesity-related health issues.
“I was gaining weight despite exercising 3 to 4 times a week. I was then diagnosed with prediabetes and was insulin-resistant. My grandmother had diabetes and I didn’t want to end up like that. I also had no energy,” Jen says.
Jen knew she needed a healthy lifestyle change. After learning about the South Beach Diet from a friend and fellow mom, Jen took control of her health and started following the diet. She not only made an effort to become more active during the day, but she also increased the amount of time she spent exercising during the week and committed herself to the healthy meal plan, which included eating three, well-balanced meals and two nutritious snacks daily.
“I increased my exercise up to 6 times a week and started Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet. By the time I moved on to Phase 2, I was encouraged by the weight loss and felt so much better that I stuck with the diet. I eat whole grains for my carbohydrates and enjoy more vegetables with my meals now,” Jen says.
Before Jen started following the South Beach Diet, she had a weakness for bread, pasta, and French fries. Since then, she has learned how to make good food choices and find healthier alternatives for her favorite foods. When she slips on her healthy meal plan or feels like she gained a little weight, she goes back to Phase 1 to eliminate her cravings for sugary, refined foods. Moreover, she uses the various tools and features on SouthBeachDiet.com, including the Weight Tracker, Food and Fitness Journal, and Meal Planner to help her keep track of her progress and maintain her weight loss.
“Anytime I feel like I gained some weight back, I can easily go to Phase 1 to get back on track. The website and app are also helpful tools,” Jen says.
Today, Jen is picture perfect. In just three months, Jen dropped 20 pounds, improved her health, and is no longer prediabetic. She continues to work out six times a week and follow a healthy eating plan.
Jen says, “I have never felt better in my life. I have tons of energy and had to take all of my clothes to the tailor to be altered. The South Beach Diet is more than just a diet for me; it’s a lifestyle and this is how I will eat for the rest of my life. My family eats with me and we are all healthier because of it.”
I was never hungry on the South Beach Diet.
