The South Beach Diet

Congratulations on reaching your weight-loss goals! But now what?
How often have you heard people say that they have lost a lot of weight only to
gain it all back after going "off" the diet? Unlike fad diets, the
South Beach Diet teaches you how to make healthy lifestyle changes so you can
lose weight and keep it off. Follow these strategies to
help you maintain your weight loss for the long haul.
Keep eating healthy.
you've reached your goal weight, it's important to stay focused on maintaining
the healthy eating habits you've adopted during your weight-loss journey. On the
first two Phases of the South Beach Diet, you learned how to monitor your
cravings and choose from a wide range of healthy and satisfying foods. That
shouldn't change now. On Phase 3 of the South Beach Diet you'll easily be able
to monitor your body's response to particular foods and naturally make the
right choices most of the time.
Revisit your fitness plan.
If you've been following a workout routine that has become, you
know, routine, it's time
to take your fitness to the next level. Challenge your body in different ways
by signing up for a gym class you've never taken before, learning a new sport, or
finding an exercise buddy to help you stay motivated. If weather permits, take
your workout outdoors.
Maintain a support group.
Although you've met your goals, now's not the time to break away
from your support system. The South Beach Diet community is an excellent source
of support no matter what Phase of the diet you're on. Plus, when you offer advice
to other members, you're reinforcing healthy living principles for yourself.
be times when you've overindulged or even regained a few pounds, but that doesn't
mean you've completely sabotaged your goals. If you've gained weight or your
cravings have returned, you can go back on Phase 1 for two weeks or simply
review the food lists for Phase 2 to be sure you're not inadvertently making
the wrong choices.
Reward yourself for continued success.
While you've reached your goal weight and are likely fitter and
healthier than ever, it's still important to reward yourself for keeping up the
great work. Whether you've brown bagged your lunch to the office every day or made
an effort to exercise at least three times a week, remember to treat yourself
to a nonfood reward like a massage or a new outfit from time to time — you
deserve it for your continued success.
