I just turned 37, I have a 17 year old son on his way to college. I am overweight and have been blaming it on having a baby for the past 17 years. I have heard i hold my weight well, I have heard men like meat on women, I have heard I have an athletic build, I have heard y0ou look so squeezy. No one calls it what it is though. I am an African American woman, a nurse by profession and I am overweight. I dont feel sexy, and I have rolls where there shouldnt be rolls. I dont particularly like to cook. I keep my meals simple which generally means unhealthy. Im not very disciplined and am looking for help with this new feat of mine. I am inmy car all day as I am a Community Health Nurse, at night I run behind my son and his sports life. Late night Im up studying to complete the next level of my nursing degree. Im a snacker just because Im always running, this I know isnt health either. So here I am! Is there anyone out there who feels my pain?LOL!

Hey there

I hear ya on the kids getting old.  I have 4 teenagers - oldest is 19 and youngest is 14.  You are lucky to still be young - I'm 46 - and wondering how easy it will be to lose weight at this age.  I was actually pretty lucky until this past summer when I had a weird allergic reaction which sent me to the emergency room where they gave me epinephrine which put me into cardiac arrest.  Luckily I remember almost nothing before waking up in an ICU miles away where they had medivaced me.  They say they thought they were going to lose me - holy smoke.  After, I fell out of my pretty rigerous exercise routine as they said no "stressful exercise" and into habit of drinking a bit too much red wine (doc told me to so....).  Even after I got the all clear to go back to exercising I didn't feel like it.  I ate worse and worse and time passed and clothes got tighter until one day nothing fit and I had to go buy new pants, etc.  Still I didn't get a grip.  So now I have at least 25lbs to lose (not really sure as have yet to weight myself - too chicken).  Anyway I am starting SBD Jan 1 but joined website early to check out what I need to do to prep.  I really could us a buddy to help me get through the first 2 weeks.  If I can do that think I might just be ok.  So did you just start?

Hi Carole, wow! You have been through alot, you deserve this right now. Yes I started Monday 12/28. I wanted to see if I could get a jumpstart on it. So far so good, but I know once I hit the 10 lb point, ill probably think im doing great and looking great and stop. I want to continue yet I know Im not disciplined. We can help one another if youd like. These past 2 days have been easy so far, I can stop aND START AGAIN ON THE 1ST. NO BIGGIE!
