Summer is here! Folks everywhere are heading to the shore, heating up their grills, and enjoying outdoor activities in the park. There’s no better time to incorporate all you’ve learned on the South Beach Diet with a healthier and more active lifestyle—and to shape up in the process!

To help you get in shape and stay motivated, we’re kicking off an official Summer Shape-Up Challenge in our all new South Beach Diet Community Challenge message board. Here’s the scoop:

Three grand-prize winners will join us in an exclusive, private teleconference with Dr. Arthur Agatston, creator of the South Beach Diet! These winners will also receive a free month on the site, two weeks of free nutrition counseling, and a copy of The South Beach Diet Taste of Summer Cookbook. Finally, the winners’ bios will be featured as Success Stories on the site!

Bonus! All members who successfully complete the challenge will receive a free month on the site and will be considered as a featured Success Story.

How to participate: Simply post in this folder, upload a “before” photo, and tell us what your goals are. Then, report back on how you’re doing. Are you making progress? What challenges are you facing? How are you overcoming them? You’ll need to post at least three times in different weeks during the course of the challenge to be eligible to win, and you must include an “after” photo in your final post before the challenge ends on September 7, 2009. We urge you to post as often as you can, as the content of your posts will be considered by our judges. Check out the official Summer Shape-Up Challenge rules here.

We look forward to seeing you share your summer shape-up experiences with others! In the meantime, enjoy the challenge … and enjoy your summer on the Beach!

I would like to participate in the challenge. My goal is to lose 125lbs in 18 months. I have currently lost 10 (and I am super happy about it!).
My goal for this summer is the have lost 25 more pounds by the end of the summer challenge in September.
I will be sending my "before" picture in an alternate email.
Let me know if you need anything else from me in order to participate.

Thanks!

Hi everyone!  Here's wishing everyone good luck on the summer challenge.  I can't wait to get and give some motivation, helping us all melt our fat in the summer sun!  I'll pass on the official competition but I will be cheering everyone on.

Cheers!

what a great tool to get me off on the right foot..  today i have recommitted myself to SB.  i reached my goal back in 3/08, only to have gained back about half of what i lost.  i have to learn that i can never go back to the way i use to eat if i want to stay healthy and keep the weight off.

im starting off from scratch, right from the beginning, and i will succeed in getting back to goal.  im so glad this challenge as started..

i'll report a new picture soon.

I'm IN!!!

I have struggled for 3 straight months with no permanent weight gain....OR loss of more than 1 pound either way.

My husband said that a "lesser woman" would've given up and thrown in the towel by now.  He knows me better than that.

I WANT my goal weight...and even beyond that!!!

My body is too comfortable where I am...so I will try many different things to shake things up.
This new challenge is just what I need..in order to get there.

May I use the photos I already have...especially the beginning one...and post a new final photo before Sept. 7th?

Please let me know either way, if possible.  Thanks!  :)

Hey Richard,

I also would like to join the summer challenge.  My goal is to lose weight, but my ultimate goal is to feel better in general.  I have 4 girls, 2 of which are 10 month old twins.  I had gestational diabetes with the pregnancy and I still have elevated blood pressure.  I am exhausted all the time and quite honestly am done feeling that way.  I am looking forward to the challenge but am also challenging South Beach Diet to prove the diet and lifestyle works.  Looking forward to it!!
I will upload my photo on my page.  Not sure how to attach it in this reply.

Thanks,
Theresa

Your summer Challenge sounds wonderful.  However; I only have one pound to reach my goal, so I'm already a winner!!!  I would not have been so successful without the help of South Beach and the web site.  Hey, does that get me a cookbook as a prize???  Anyway, good luck with the challenge, I wish everyone success!!  Sandy Gr

When you're posting a message, look at the section above the field in which you type in your message. There's a group of three boxes with "Insert Item" written above them. The center box is used to insert your image. It will open up a prompt that asks for the URL of your image (the picture must be hosted on another site in order to show up; you can't use a picture that's only on your computer).

I love the idea of a Summer Challenge!!  I'm in!  I just returned from vacation, and while I have had great success with South Beach, I have been slip-sliding away over the summer.   My goal is to get back on track with exercise and work on adjusting a few meal issues - french fries (always my craving weakness), boosting my veggies and lean!! protein.  I will not put a set weight goal down now, but will see where the re-focusing takes me.  Of course, I'd love to put down that I want to lose the 27.5 lbs. that will take me to my orginal goal, but the Challenge does end on September 7th or so.  In addition to the weight loss and healthier eating, South Beach has taught me to be realistic about my goals.  Will post new before pictures later!!

Good luck to everyone!!!!

I would like to join the Summer Challenge. I am in week 1 of Phase 1 and I'm off to a good start. My short term goal is to look a little better in the dress I bought for my son's wedding at the end of this week! By September 7 I would like to hit 140 pounds, which would be an 11 pound loss from where I am today. I'm doing well on the healthy eating side, but I need to increase my exercise. Summer is certainly a good time to do that. Good luck to everyone!

PS:  My goals are to los15 pounds by the end of this challenge.  I am hoping this challenge will help me stay on track and keep on eating healthy and get the bonus of losing weight.  I currently weigh 175 lbs.

Hi Richard,

I want to participate in the challenge too.
I really need the extra motivation to get back on track.. I did so well last year losing a total of 56 pounds. Than when January came, so did my mother-in law.
Mother-in-law has MS and early Alzheimers disease and things started going out of control from that point. I've put 20 pounds back on and I'm so ashamed.
I started South Beach over a year ago to get my diabetes under control, and I did . I even came off my medication. Guess I just need to stop and refocus on what my needs are and take time for myself. I love going to the gym,but amy more just to get there has become a major event.

My goals for this challenge are to lose the 20 pounds that I put back on. Get back on a regular work out schedule and increase my water intake.I just want to feel better and have the energy that I once had before.

Good luck to everyone in the challenge

MaryAnn

I'm up for the challenge!

I don't have a website of my own so I tried to use Photo Bucket for the link. It doesn't seem to be showing up. Any advice?

Ok.  This is my start up pic.  My name is Jamie.  My user name is jyawn12  I have been fighting to reach my goal weight for ten years now.  I have bounced up and down 60 pounds or so.  I was so thin in high school.  I would have never guessed that I would one day weigh 262.  I lost the sixty pounds only to gain it back in one year, just three years later.  It is depressing.  Now I suffer from fructose malabsorption.  I am no longer able to consume wheat or lean cuisines or any other type of microwaveable meal without getting sick from preservatives.  I feel like I am running out of options, and I am only 28.  Dieting is getting harder because of food limitations.  Gaining the weight back was easy but losing it is hard.  I get so incredibly hungry, even though I snack regularly that I go nuts.  My body reacts and acts so differently than it used to.

I really want to wholeheartedly give this plan a chance.  If anything, I would love to publish my story in a magazine one day.  I need to train myself to love eathing healthy.  I want to lose weight without the dependence of wheat fiber.  I am keeping my fingers crossed.
