back to the gym
I finally made it back to the gym today! I'm 9 weeks and barely having any more MS as long as I watch what I eat and am never very hungry or very full. I did a light work out, but it felt good to be moving again.
Anyone else working out regularly? What have you been doing? Anything not agree with pregger belly?

I'm so jealous! I said right from when I found out I was pregnant that I was going to keep up my gym routine, but my m/s has been so bad I haven't been able to stomach it at all. I hope to feel better soon and get back into the swing of things. I used to use the elliptical, and go to group classes in spinning, yoga, and weight training. I hope I can still do it all!
I need to start an exercise routine. I've limited myself to pushing a double stroller while I walk the dogs. It had been enough for me to maintain my weight (albeit 30 pounds overweight).
Any suggestions on where to start? Yeah... I know that they say now isn't the time to be concerned about my weight... but it would be nice to have slimmer legs or something in 7 months.

I walk on the treadmill 3 to 6 days per week. I'm 6w 1d today and no real ms ... yet. Just a little nauseous every once in awhile. Remember, ladies, your heart rate shouldn't go over 140 when you're exercising. I've been having some heart rate problems (getting winded, pounding chest, rate going up to 165 just walking to the bathroom or around the house). It's pretty scary and I'm going to the cardiologist tomorrow. I've also got thyroid issues, so I'm thinking at some point, they might limit my activities. To get my heart rate under 140, I can only go 2 mph - I like to run sprints at 7 - 10 mph, so this is pretty annoying! But my Little Bug is more important :-)

I was going to the gym religiously before getting preggo. After finding out the doctor told me to hold back until the 2nd trimester an try to stay off my feet. I had a m/c a year ago and he doesn't want to risk it. He also said that your heart rate shouldn't go over 145. Definitely told me to stay away from spinning (which I was totally addicted to) until after the baby is born. I guess different doctors have different recommendations

wait, why nor over 140? I've been doing my elliptical with a Target rate of at least 150-160. no good? I have been a little queasy though this week so I've done nothing.
I found the proper reasoning easily explained. It's below. You also don't want your core body temperature to go over 102 degrees F (also why you're not supposed to do saunas, hot tubs, or sit in the sun) because it can cause defects in early pregnancy and can cause premature labor later on. If you were a big athlete before getting pregnant, you should be able to maintain most of your workout. After my sucessful IUI, I got a sheet that said to cut my workouts by 1/3 of the intensity. I suck at math, so that didn't help :-)
"You don't want your heart rate to go too high for too long or to exercise so hard that you get overheated. If you're healthy, you generally shouldn't raise your heart rate over 140 beats per minute while pregnant. You need enough time between beats to get blood to the baby, and as the heart rate goes up you don't squeeze out quite as much blood each time and the blood is not as well oxygenated."

I am still doing all of my regular workouts, about 4 to 6 days a week. I am sticking to my normal weight lifting routine and adding some extra yoga in and just modifying where necessary. I have also done spinning and riden my road bike (on the trainer so no chance of falling on ice)! I have heard that the HR of 140 thing is not as important anymore and that it is better to rely on perceived exertion. So keep yourself at what feels like a 4 to a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10, which usually means out of breath but can still hold a conversation but cannot 'sing' :) I am going to the Dr on Wed and I am going to ask if there is anything else I need to modify or any lifting I should change (oh, like no lunges because of loosening knee ligaments!)
Good luck and keep up the good work! I also think this helps alleviate other preggo symptoms!

Reading these posts scares me! I teach group ex classes, I used to teach 7 a week as a second job. When I found out I was pregnant I gave up 2. In fact tomorrow is my last spin class at one of the places. My doctor won't see me until I'm 10 weeks, which will be next week. I called and told them about my situation and they said I can continue teaching. I hope I'm not doing too much. I don't feel winded or exhausted while teaching.

My doctor said to keep working out like normal, she actually said it will make the pregnancy symptoms better. She never said anything about a 140 heart rate.
I dont go to the gym cuz I live so far out of town but I have workout dvd galore! I do my eliptical every other day for 20 minutes and then inbetween days I do my workout dvd or my wii fit! I love working out and it helps take some of the "sleepiness" away. If I dont work out I find myself taking at least two naps! This is my fourth pregnancy and I have workout with all my babies!I find that it makes childbirth go fasters and is easier on your body!Yay to all of us working out!
