The holiday season is upon us! And while this time of year can be joyous, it can also be stressful, especially if you’re trying to stick to a healthy eating plan. Rich holiday meals, decadent desserts, and festive party hors d’oeuvres can derail any diet, and you may find yourself needing more support than ever to resist temptation and stay on track. That’s why we’re kicking off the first annual South Beach Diet Holiday Survival Challenge. Here you can share your motivational tips, encourage other members to make healthy food choices, swap South Beach Diet-friendly holiday recipes, and win some exciting prizes, including an invitation to an exclusive teleconference with Dr. Agatston, the creator of the South Beach Diet. Here’s the scoop:

Three grand-prize winners will be invited to join us in an exclusive, private teleconference with Dr. Arthur Agatston! These winners will also receive a free month on the site, two weeks of free nutrition counseling, and a copy of The South Beach Diet Quick and Easy Cookbook.

How to participate: Simply post to this folder and tell us how you’re surviving the holiday season. How are you dealing with all the tempting foods? What are your best smart-eating strategies for parties? How are you squeezing in exercise during this busy time of year? How do you make your favorite holiday dessert South Beach Diet-friendly?

Each week for the next six weeks, we’ll give you an assignment to help you answer these questions, stay motivated, and help others stay motivated too. We encourage you to post as often as you can in our weekly challenge threads to be eligible to win. Winners will be chosen based on the quality and quantity of their posts when the contest ends on December 26, 2009. No pictures are required. We'll be posting the official Holiday Survival Challenge rules soon, so keep your eyes peeled for them!

We look forward to hearing more about your survival strategies this season, and how you manage to stay on track! Good luck, and happy holidays!

Ahhhh,,,trying to keep us honest over the winter holidays....great idea!  I did pretty good last year during the holidays but now that my weight loss has slowed down, I think I will need all the support I can get.  Last year I didn't do my usual Holiday cookie baking sessions but I was thinking I might try to introduce it again this year.  I love to bake!

I'm in on this one!  I need this challenge and this thread.  I refuse to gain weight over the holidays and it's going to be really hard.  I love holiday foods and the holidays are stressful and that's a dangerous combo.

This will be my first challenge and I'm excited. What a great way to stay on plan over the holidays. And just think how proud we will all feel when January rolls around. Yeah!

This challenge is exactly what I need!  I've done well staying on track since starting SB, but the holidays have always been challenging for me, and I have to admit I'm a little worried about how I'm going to handle it this year.  I've got a lot of upcoming parties and events (plans are already underway!)...not only family get togethers but also work and a club I belong to and "just" friends, which will start in late November and go through January.  I've actually been thinking about possibly skipping some of them this year.....but I'm not sure that's the right answer either.  I'm so glad I found this challenge, and am really looking forward to the ideas and support from other participants.

OK, I'm in. Thanks for starting a new challenge, and timing these to help with those small hurdles is great. I like the challenge idea to help me stay focused. And the holidays are so full of land mines that I really want to learn how to navigate them and not gain what I've lost, and maybe even lose a few more. I still have a goal in mind for my son's wedding in July. I want the extra weight gone so I'm not so bothered by the heat in Mississippi in July!

I'm a newbie (3 days!) so this will be a very helpful discussion and challenge. Thanks for thinking of it!

I am excited about joining this challenge.  Last year I made things for my guests thinking I wouldn't eat them; however, I did and gained back all of my weight.  This year everything I serve will be on the Southbeach diet and it will be delicious.  I am looking forward to continuing my weight loss through the Holidays!

I am so relieved to get home from a business trip with my husband to find a Holiday Survival Challenge all ready to begin.  I have been extraordinarily lax in my SBD living over the past year(!!!yes, year!!!).  A Holiday Challenge is just what I need to grab my attention and get me back on the wagon.  I recently purchased the SBD party and holiday cookbook and am excited to read the SBD take on some of my party favorites, as well as all the delicious looking recipes for dishes I haven't tried before.  Just in time.

My weight is at an all-time high.  Now may not seem like the right time to get back on track, but my resolve is getting stronger with each post I read.  Thanks Buddies...here we go!

Tami, I haven't seen you around the boards in ages (I must be hanging in the wrong spots).  You look fabulous and I know what you mean about the weekends. I went back to phase 1 for two weeks to get me kickstarted back down that scale and this challenge is just what I needed.  I really almost derailed myself this weekend but am back on track this morning!

I am excited about the holiday challenge!  I'm traveling for all the holidays this year and I know it will be difficult to stay on the beach while away from home.  I hope this challenge will help me stay on track!

Thanks for the Holiday Survival Challenge!  I'm just trying to get some of my own health issues under control and this is such a risky time to fall head over heals into a vat of chocolate!  And I try to tell myself "I know what chocolate tastes like so I don't have to have it!"

I have just finished phase 1 and am starting phase2 today. I lost 10lbs.Yahoo!!!  I am hoping this challenge keeps me on task over the holidays.  I have already talked to my mother about thanksgiving to make it more Beach friendly.  She was very supportive.  I am also getting the South Beach Cookbook for the holidays.  Looking forward to seeing what others are doing.
