As the leaves start changing color and the weather becomes more brisk, it’s clear that autumn is upon us. And there’s no better time to get outdoors and start walking. Whether you’re a seasoned strider or a fitness newbie, leading a more active lifestyle will not only make you feel healthier, it will also help you shape up along the way! And there’s more: Walking a little every day as you follow the South Beach Diet lifestyle will help you reach your weight-loss goals faster!

To help you get moving and stay motivated, on Monday, September 14, we’re kicking off an official Fall Walking Challenge here on our South Beach Diet Community Challenge message board. Here’s the scoop:

Three grand-prize winners will be invited to join us in an exclusive, private teleconference with Dr. Arthur Agatston, creator of the South Beach Diet! These winners will also receive a free month on the site, two weeks of free nutrition counseling, and a copy of The South Beach Diet Parties & Holidays Cookbook.

How to participate: Simply post in this folder and tell us about your walking routine and goals. How often do you hit the pavement? How are you keeping your walks interesting? What’s your secret for staying motivated? How are your walks making you feel?

We'll give you weekly assignments to help you answer these questions, participate in the boards, and motivate you to keep walking. You’ll need to post at least once a week, in that week’s dedicated challenge thread, during the course of the eight-week challenge to be eligible to win before the challenge ends on November 9, 2009. Hint: We urge you to post as often as you can, as the content and quality of your posts will be considered by our judges. No pictures required. Check out the official Fall Walking Challenge rules here:

http://www.southbeachdiet.com/sbd/fall-walking-challenge-2009-rules.aspx

We look forward to seeing you share your fall walking experiences with others! In the meantime, enjoy the challenge … and enjoy your time on the Beach!

I can't wait!  I started walking and exercising on the Beach a year ago July and it has been great.   Even though I am not really losing more weight with my extra walking right now, I do feel much better.  I can't wait for this challenge.

I'm in for this challenge.  I've gotten out of the regular walking routine that I used to have and I'm hoping this will give me some oomph to get back in the groove.

I would love to join this challenge.  I've always been a walker.  I walk hills and the last year I've been following supercharged interval walking.  I made 3 sets of index cards for Phase 1,2 &3.  I wrote out the levels and use Winsor Pilates for the total body workout days.  I walk 3-4 days a week, about 2.5 miles with hills and interval.  Tori

When the rules say we are to respond to the different fall walking challenge threads, does it mean all the thread that others start or just this official start thread?

Count me in!  I walk most day with my ipod for company.  I listen to health and fitness podcasts and find them very motivating.  I feel fantastic afterwards.  I can actually feel the good vibes walking creates.  I hope to increase my fitness untill I'm able to jog on a regular basis.

Thanks for having the challenge/prizes.  It's what makes a site fun and interesting.

Well, I'm here and hoping to get more walking in my journey on the beach. It sure feels good to get out there and walk, enjoy the fresh air and usually I take my golden retreiver with me too. Just have to make it happen more often. Maybe this is just what I need.

Happy walking everyone!!!

I just read this morning that.."miracles do not break the law of nature." - CS Lewis

This challenge is exactly what I have been hoping for.  A way to start a walking routine and stay motivated - thank you for this challenge!  I have set my walking shoes out so that they will be ready to go when I get home from work!

Now if I can just get my ticker to work :)

Count me in as a participant. I am not good at exercising. After a day of standing and cutting hair I am pooped, but I know that walking would be good for me. I have a neighbor that will walk with me. That will keep her motivated too.

I just started SB today and saw this challenge!! I am def. in. I plan on walking at night with my newborn-and the jogger stroller i finally bought which will make it much easier for me to jog or walk and not worry that he is bouncing all over the place! My goal is to atleast walk 4x's a week instead of plopping infront of the tv at night.

I'm in!  This fits perfectly with another challenge between my husband and me.  We are on day 9 of a 40 day challenge just between the 2 of us, to follow Southbeach to the letter and exercise every day for those 40 days.  Things like this just help me stay motivated and on track, so I'm always up for a challenge!  Walking is my favorite exercise, especially this time of year.  Even Houston is starting to cool down a little, so I'm ready to hit the pavement!  About to head out for a walk right now!  Good luck everyone!

You should make sure to post in each week's official thread (which we'll post every Monday morning) in order to be eligible for the challenge prizes. Good luck!

I'm in too!  Thanks for starting this challenge.  I will continue to walk every day (at least 45-50 min.) but will build intervals into the daily walk and will devote two hours per week to strength training.

I started SB at the end of June and have been dropping the pounds steadily (7.5 so far).  I've been in other programs where I lost weight quickly but regained it fast.  This is different - slow steady loss without feeling deprived, anxious or hungry. And now they offer this great incentive - way to go South Beach!

Happy Walking!

Okay what is going on this week?  I can't get on any other boards but this one?  I was hoping they had this all fixed.  Any info?  If not I will have to try and call on Wed. as I won't get home from work early enough to call tomorrow.  Could you report the problem for me?  If I try to get on another board, it just takes me to a sign in screen.   Thanks

This is perfect timing!  I've plateaued on my diet and can't seem to loose another pound.  I haven't exercised regularly (hate it) but I do love walking, so this is definitely something I can take on and follow through on.  Knowing there are others like me doing it too will help.  Let's do it!
