Getting to know you...Introductions
This is my fourth New Years Challenge and so many of my SB friendships have started out of the New Years Challenge, so I thought it might be nice to have a place to introduce ourselves and get to know each other. Please feel free to come back to this thread to chat and get to know each other.
My name is Julian and I am a Wisconsin transplant now living in Hotlanta (however we are currently freezing). I got married last December after being together with my honey for 12 years. I have 4 lovely daughter (one is a step daughter) and 5 beautiful grandchildren. I started SB a few years back and lost 20 pounds, but have been holding at my current weight for last last year or so, so it is time for me to get back to the beach and the New Years Challenge has always been a great source of support to get me moving again.
Now, how about sharing a bit about yourself?

I am from a very small town in Alaska where it is currently -15 degrees! I am 32, 5' 10" and 191.4lbs as of this morning. I am looking forward to getting my life back and am committed to this program.
Since I am new to SB and the forums and ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Okay, I'll jump in too. I think this is my third New Year's Challenge. I'm starting this up .6 of a pound from where I started last year. I had some good weight loss at the first of the year, and then I went on vacation and blew it. And, I went on another vacation to Alaska, and blew it again. And then, I went on another vacation to California wine country and blew it again, hence I gained whatever I had lost.
Now, I'm determined NOT to let my vacations ruin by new lifestyle! It just doesn't make sense, all my friends like to eat healthy, we are all conscious of our weight, why can't we keep it together when we get together???
I'm planning on more exercise to help keep this weight off.
I'm a 62 year old night shift ICU nurse. I've worked nights for about 35 years! and, I've always been heavy, even through high shcool. It is time to end the "heavy" part of my life!
I look forward to meeting everyone and supporting others on this journey.
What small town in Alaska? Aren't they all small except for Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau and Ketchikan??
I've lived/worked in Alaska twice. About 20 years ago in Ketchikan and 8 years ago in Anchorage!
Welcome abroad as a newbie. The boards will give you so much support if you get involved. We usually get to know each other during the challenge and that is a lot of fun. We have a lot fo repeat people in the challenge, so there will be plenty of good tips and advise.
Julian
I live in Tok. It is a 100 miles west of the canadian border. You have to drive through here if you are coming fromthe states. One of my families best friends moved to Ketchikan last year. We went ot visit and it was beautiful. Of course I love the water and don't mind the rain.
Oh and yes most towns here are small. :)
I am not worried so much about winning the challenge (eventhough that would be awesome) as I am sticking with this. But I have a feeling this time is different. I have the desire.

We had a 20 year reunion in Ketchikan this last July, (one of my vacations that I overindulged in) and we went fishing and kayaking. you have to love the water, and be able to live in the rain if you are in Ketchikan.
Then, in August, I was in Seward, another kayaking trip around the Glaciers there.
What are you doing for exercise in that cold weather? I'm thinking it is almost too cold to snowshoe.
Nice to meet you. I'd love hearing your stories about Alaska as we get further into this challenge.
Hi,
This is my first time to use SB online, but I did lose about 40 lbs on SB several years ago when the 1st book came out. Unfortunately, life got in the way and I reverted to my old eating habits and gained alot (but not all!) of it back.
I've lived in Texas all my life, and in Ft Worth since I was 5. I've been married 32 years, have 3 children, 3 grandchildren, and another on the way. I was a dancer from age 8 thru about 21 or 22, and in the past I was a certified fitness specialist and aerobics instructor for about 10 years so I can't blame my current condition on not knowing how to eat right and exercise.
I'm a teacher of the deaf, and I work at a charter school in Arlington just a couple of blocks from the new Cowboy Stadium. I teach high school math and science.
I'm tired of being the only one of my siblings with a weight problem and I don't want to have to have knee replacement surgery as my mom did a couple of months ago. My knees are already damaged enough from all the years of dancing and I don't need to be carrying around all this extra weight. So I'm ready to accept this challenge and get started on the new me.
I am a retired statistics teacher and have been retired for a little over 5 years. While we (my husband of 49 years) and I live in Western North Carolina we have our house on the market and are looking to return to our native Minnesota where we plan to have a house on a lake and go fishing. I spent the last 10 years of my teaching career in Fort Worth, TX, teaching at Fort Worth Country Day School.
Two of my three sisters and my brother and I have weight issues and blood pressure issues and cholesterol issues. So not only am I fighting eating and exercise issues, genetics is also playing a roll!
I find I thrive better if I have a little competition and think about what I am doing - hence the journaling where I keep track of my food intake and other stuff. Ironically I am not in this competition for the prize but rather the support. Now if I can figure out how to get my before picture posted I will be happy.
I used to live in Corpus Christi, I loved it there. There used to be a lady, Beth, that was part of the first challnge I did and she thought the deaf. I wish she was still on line, but how knows, perhaps she will pop up again and join us for the challenge. I think we all really know what we need to do to lose weight with changing our eating patterns and exercisings, but somehow it never seems that simple to do on a regular basis. That is why I love SB Online as you do make friends and have others to help keep you motivated. good luck to all of us.
Julian
I think lots of us have health concerns that are motivating us and really makes it so much more important that we lose the weight and get healthy. I'm so glad you are part of this group on the challenge.
Go to the very first post in the thread for week on weight in and pictures by ADMIN RICHARD and he explains how to do the picture.
Julian
I'm glad to see all of you here! Together maybe we can offer each other support for the journey and celebration of our successes.
In the winter I ski alot. I have been making excuses the last 3 days though not to exercise. I keep telling myself that I will start again once I am allowed carbs again. I know that is rediculous though so I plan to ski tonight. We will see what happens. The thing is I love to exercise but I just don't do it. I don't understand that. Hopefully we can work through that here. I have a lot of DVD's (Turbo jam, Chalean Extreme, Slim in 6, etc) that I love but I quit doing those right before Christmas. I hope to start getting up in the am again and getting my rear in gear. it is tough though because I have to be up at 4:30 to get in an hour workout. But I know I can do it!
Anyways, I really look forward to this journey with everybody.
Take care,
Tawnia

I have battled my weight since college. I have been working out for 5 weeks every other day and have lost 7 pounds on my own. I am new to the SBD, but very excited to start. I have high blood pressure and my Glucose is high. I am hoping to get off the high blood pressure meds and get those sugars down. This is really the perfect plan for me.
I will post a picture later.
Enjoy your day!
Michelle
I love the fact that SBD is really a lifestyle and allows for things like "real life." It makes things easier for me to know I'm not "cheating" but "choosing" and can get right back on the wagon. I think the challenge will be a great opportunity to get back on track and meet some great people.
We are very close in goals! You've been very successful, too.
Talk to you soon!
I am sure you will have a lot of success with SBD. It's not a difficult diet and it's something that can be maintained for life. You'll see a lot of people on the boards who have been here for years and have maintained their loss. They are an inspiration to me, and I hope, for you, too. There is so much support and encouragement here.
Michelle
my name is Louise and i was born and raised in Hartford, CT, moving to Boston MA in my 20's, and now living in VA for the past 11 years (could not stand the snow anymore, lol).. im now 57 years old, have two daughters (23 & 25), and have 3 g'babies. i started SB on 4/19/07 and in a little less then 11 months i lost 102 pounds, going from 225 pounds to 123 pounds (im a very unusual case im told, lol). i am now on a journey back to goal as i messed up. i went back to the old way of eating and the pounds started coming back. ive now learned my lesson, and im using this challenge as a jump start to get me going and headed in the right direction.
Nice to meet you all........
