Nervous: Moving to Phase 2

moved into Phase 2 today and I am a little nervous about the weight loss continuing.  My head knows that sticking to the plan will keep me dropping 1-2 pounds a week but my head starts thinking of all the ways that I could mess up and fall off of the wagon.

I know that South Beach works - years ago before 2 broken bones, 3 surgeries, a miscarriage, pregnancy, baby, overseas move and 30 pounds ago, South Beach worked very well for me and Phase 2 had me making some fabulous recipes.  There are a few changes from the "blue" South Beach book to the South Beach SuperCharged and online that I am trying to follow.  One big change is not having a fruit serving for breakfast and in the blue South Beach book it recommends strawberries for breakfast.  In some ways, I am such a literalist that I find it difficult when I can't find certain ingredients or can't figure out which version of South Beach to follow.

So, powering on and looking forward to the new recipes, weight loss, and challenges that Phase 2 will bring.

Anyone else starting Phase 2 and needing encouragement?

Hi RamseysMom. I found the SBD quick and easy cookbook the best yet. I don't have time for elaborate meals, and these work out about as well as fast food (but obviously much healthier!) And the meals are so tasty! I use the guidelines for what to eat in P2 on the website. I will occasionally have fruit for breakfast (blueberries in my yogurt, apricots in my oatmeal). Just monitor what your body is saying to you. If you get unusually hungry by 9:30 or 10:00 fruit first thing might not be the best bet. If it doesnt' seem to bother than we certainly can.
Also, you might find that the first two weeks or so on P2 you don't lose anything. Some people lose, others don't. It's your body re-adjusting. But you have to really pay attention to what's happening. Sometimes we add grains and fruits too fast, and our body plumps up again, sometimes it's just adjusting. Wait it out, don't get discouraged. Know that it's normal. You can do this! And keep posting! I know we can both do this!

I also "phasing" into phase 2 and very nervous myself. I definitely have some mind tricks going on. My mind is challenging the idea that I'm not supposed to have any more sugar cravings, and that's all I can think about. I'm also very afraid of getting lazy and not wanting to go through all of the work to cook this food each week and find new EASY recipes. I bought blueberries and strawberries and am afraid to eat them!! If you come across any recipes that are quick and filling, please pass them along!

I am actually finding Phase 2 pretty easy - adding oatmeal for breakfast and a fruit later in the day.  Then next week, I will add more good starches and fruits.  I am also keeping up with my daily workouts (from the SB SuperCharged book) and weighing myself everyday just to make sure I am on track.  I know that it is a little neurotic but it keeps my mind in the game.

For quick and easy recipes - I have made extra the day before and used some of that stuff the next day.

Also, the Quick Quiche Cups or Quiche Cups to Go are easy to heat up after being frozen.  I also found that the Cheesy Fritatta is easier to make for dinner because I have more time and it also heats up nicely the next day if I make extra.

Another idea is buying something like Turkey Sausage (there is even a brand that has the South Beach stamp on it) and using that as your protein base and making something like the Stewed Tomatoes to put the sausage in.  Grilled or steamed vegetables are always easy.

One thing that I have learned about South Beach recipes is that the more that I make them, the easier they get and then I begin adding other things into the recipe.  Last night, I added some different colored peppers and squash into the Stewed Tomatoes recipe and it tasted really good.

Keep focused on your goals, do the best that you can, keep checking the boards, keep asking for help and the rest will fall into place.

blessings,
Stacy

Hi there, blmartin. If you go to"Food and Recipes" and scroll down to "Quick Meals and Tips" there's a whole section there of easy and quick P1 and P2 meals to make. I went ahead and purchased the Quick and Easy cookbook too, because I just didn't seem to have the time to do all the other dishes.I love them, and recommend these recipes a lot! They are whole foods and healthy, and tasty all in one!!! And I find the Q&E meals are a little more palatable to the family. It all tastes good, but some are a little more grown-up and sometimes the Q&E are what kids are more comfortable with. Good Luck!
