The holidays are upon us! It’s a time of joy and celebration, but the holiday season can also be stressful, especially if you’re trying to stick to a healthy eating plan. Rich holiday meals, decadent desserts, and festive party hors d’oeuvres can quickly derail any diet, and you may find yourself needing more support than usual to resist temptation and stay on track. That’s why we’re kicking off our third annual South Beach Diet Holiday Survival Challenge. Share your motivational tips, encourage other members to make healthy food choices, swap South Beach Diet-friendly holiday recipes, and win some exciting prizes. Here’s the scoop:
How to participate: We’re kicking off our South Beach Diet Holiday Survival Challenge on Monday, November 21 on this message board! Each Monday for the next five weeks, you and the other members of your team will be given a mini-challenge or task to accomplish. Throughout the week of each mini-challenge, you will work with your team to complete the task. The weekly assignments will teach you strategic coping skills for the holiday season, such as how to make healthy food choices, stick with a fitness routine, and follow a healthy lifestyle. You will gain support and receive motivation from other members as you complete the weekly assignments individually and as a team. Be sure to tell us about your strategies for surviving the holiday season. What are your best smart-eating tips for avoiding pitfalls at parties? How do you squeeze exercise in during this busy time of year? How do you make your favorite holiday dessert South Beach Diet-friendly? During the first week, go to the official Challenge thread (“Week 1”) to see your assignment, then choose one of the four teams and post to that team’s thread and meet your teammates. Each team will have a maximum of 10 people each; only the first 10 people to sign up for a team will be able to participate in the Challenge. All participating members of the Challenge must choose one of the following teams and post at least once a week to be eligible for the grand prize:

We encourage you to regularly report on your progress with the assignments. Simply start posting to your team folder. You should also add photos documenting your favorite holiday recipes and the ingredients you used to make them South Beach Diet-friendly in our weekly Challenge threads to be eligible to win the grand prize. The team with the best tips and most consistent participation will be rewarded with the grand prize. Message Board volunteers and registered dietitians may periodically weigh-in on the assignments to answer any questions you may have. Winners will be chosen based on the quality and quantity of their posts after the Challenge ends 11:59 EST on Sunday, December 25, 2011.
