UP and down!

So, UP and down not only describes my weight over the past few years (almost 15 if I am REALLY honest) but it also describes how I feel about my current weight loss.  I feel UP when I know that I have recommitted to eating healthy and working out but I feel down when I think about how many pounds I have piled on before making this step.

I feel up about joining the SB website and the boards but feel down and discouraged while trying to post photos and they show up as tiny little dots that are all distorted then the photo disappears the next day.  I feel UP from working out and having more energy to play with my beautiful daughter - I feel down when I realize that 2 years ago when I was 6-weeks pregnant with her that I did a Sprint-Triathlon and then let that fitness go down the drain.

I feel up today that we are traveling and will have some great family time, I feel scared that travel and family time will mean bad eating habits as we will be in another country with unfamiliar foods... what a cheap justification - like there is a place on the planet that doesn't have fresh vegetables regardless of what they call them!

OK, so my goals while traveling (12 hours of planes and airports, then 2 hours of driving) to get there then 6 days there and then the return is to keep up my daily workouts in the SB SuperCharged book, choose healthy when I am able, eating a healthy meal or snack prior to the wedding events (rehearsal dinner, reception, brunch the next day).  I have printed out some South Beach recipes to make for the family group that is staying at the same house that we are.  The weather is supposed to be a little cooler than what I am used to so that will lead to some great walks by the lake (they are in the 60s vs. the over 100 heat I have been dealing with).  My main goal is to not over-indulge and to at least not gain any weight or cravings!

Another attempt at posting a photo:

Hi Ramsesymom! You should feel UP about the changes you are making. Try to ignore, or at least minimize the down feelings. They will only set you up for failure. Look at the positive changes and hang on to them. We all are here because we've made some poor choices that caused us to lose fitness, gain weight, make poor eating choices, whatever. But everyone who posts here has made a concious decision to change what they are doing. You have switched to an alternate path. For me, I think about where I might be if I hadn't taken on this lifestyle. I was 70 pounds overweight, starting to develop issues with blood chemistry, arthritis, body aches, etc. I would still be feeling all that and more. (I shudder when I think about it.) Now, I'm not where I want to finish up, but I'm making progress. I'm learning how my body reacts to different foods, and making a concious effort to improve my overall health. I have a lot of living to do, and by changing what I am doing now, I can enjoy that living and whatever life throws my way. You can too.  Look forward, not back. Hindsight is always 20/20!
