Week 3: Squeeze in Fitness Whenever Possible

If you’re worried about not having enough time for regular workouts during the holidays, strategize simple ways to squeeze in small workouts throughout the day. Here are some suggestions to help you stick with your fitness workouts throughout the holiday season:

  • Park your car farther away from the mall entrance so you can log in extra steps.
  • Walk in intervals while Christmas shopping or take an extra 20 minutes to walk around the perimeter of the entire mall.
  • After a meal, go for a walk with your family and friends to view the Christmas lights and decorations around your neighborhood.
  • If you don’t have time to hit the gym, climb your house stairs. Make it a point to climb up and down your stairs an extra 5 times each day. You can also climb the stairs at the office during your lunch break.
  • Turn your cleanup routine into a workout. Set a timer on the oven or alarm on your cell phone and see how much you can clean your house before it goes off. Move quickly from room to room and go upstairs to down.

This Week’s Challenge: Brainstorm creative ways you can work out while you’re at the mall, the office, and at home. Let your teammates know how you plan to squeeze in exercise during this busy time of year and how you will stay motivated. Work with your teammates to prepare a workout that will represent your team in the overall mini-challenge. Be sure to incorporate interval exercise and core-strengthening exercises into your workout.

Hi everyone,

What great ideas for getting through the holiday parties and many temptations surrounding us these next few weeks. This week our winner is from the Winter Wonders Team. Debbie0813 will be receiving a French Bull Rectangular Melamine Platter. Congratulations to Debbie0813 and to all who took time out to plan a strategy for themselves. In doing so you helped all of us stay focused and motivated during the fun, hectic, and challenging holiday season.

This is so funny, at work we were just talking about this.  My friends have noticed that on brake that i walk around the building, i have a little something to eat like turkey rollups or 1oz of cheese.  But the most important thing is I  get to a yoga class in the morning before i go to  work ,  now i don't start my shift until 1130am so i have time.

Wow I can't believe we are on week 3 already. This challenge is going to truly be a challenge for me and I am calling on all my Silver Belle teammates to help. I don't do well in the exercise area in fact I do downright poor ugh! I have a bulging disc (L5) in my lower back and it will not stay stable. I am in Physical Therapy for it and exercising is very difficult although, PT consists of a lot of core work, to get the stability I need to hold it (the back) together.  It is getting better and starting to stabilize but I still am not quite to the point of doing regular exercises yet and then I have to do baby steps to get where I want to go. Devise a plan.

So, my plan is to continue with PT and start adding in walking on the treadmill regularly. I am going for the just do it on a regular basis concept and worry about how far later. 15-20 min. Then I want to add in Pilates as soon as I am able as well as some cardio if my body will handle the jarring that’s part of the problem the bending and jarring my back is just not staying stable enough for it. I am not able to run. Both of my knees have been replaced so Dr. says no running ever. I have never been a very athletic person but would like to get to the point where exercising is MY FRIEND! J lol!

This will all take time but most of all it will take “Just doing it” I really just hate working out. It’s a double edge sword for me I hate it because it hurts and when it hurts it works ugh! I am goal oriented so. I’m divising a goal to take my “Plan” rom beginning to advanced workout level. Dream big.

My plan is to do my PT 2X per day and work up to a workout program that will take me from a beginner on to advanced. Also, to workout in the morning before I too busy and have too many excuses not to do it. As my day moves along I always shove working out to the low on the priority list it needs to be first thing and just git-er done!

So far my plan is on track with my Physical Therapist and she is helping me to get started to reach my workout goal and she has started me on the treadmill this week and I walked 20 min at 2.6 mi per hr at a 2% incline I know it’s not much for some but it is a start and I felt good about implementing my plan and I’m on track to my goal.
