This has really been fun and inspiring.  I thought it would be more difficult to figure out how it works, but I am excited now to go back and read the other message boards that I have missed.  South Beach is my favorite thing and I tell everyone about it.  I teach in a high school and I often try to educate my students on how the food they eat affect their bodies and minds.  I have learned all of this because of you, Dr. Agatston and I thank you. My inspiration to getting back to eating totally healthy is returning.  I hope there is less of me next week!!

"Here's my last question - inquiring minds want to know.  What's your favorite healthy dessert indulgence?"

As I have said in the past, I am a "chocoholic" and enjoy dark chocolate desserts. The good news is that the polyphenols in dark chocolate are looking better and better for our general health. Nevertheless, as my wife reminds me, there still is sugar in chocolate and you can't over indulge. Marie points out the "3 Bite Rule" which I often extend to 4 or 5 bites.

I've enjoyed chatting with you today.

Well, we have come to the end of our hour, which has flown by.  Thank you so much, Dr. Agatson, for joining us today and answering such a wide variety of questions.  I know that we will all be re-reading this thread for review later.

Have a beachy Thursday, everyone!  Thanks for being here.  Next week's meetings will be back on the regular Monday/Friday schedule!

I was thinking of you though!  Figured you could sell that answer every time the bread question arose (which is what, about every 30 seconds?!) and pretty soon you'd be able to hire your own personal chef.  : )

Seriously, this was a great meeting!  Which I am happy about because I left work at 3 pm in order to attend live.

I am so disappointed that I missed Dr. A's meeting.  I had planned to log on as soon as the kids went home (normally I miss the Friday meeting because school doesn't let out until 3 pm, but for this meeting it would have worked great).

However, it started snowing about 4 this morning.  Waiting to see if they would close the school (they didn't), driving thru the snow to work, trying to keep the few kids who were there focused on academics until noon (we did get to go home early), then stopping by the store to stock up on a few things in case the roads got worse -- by the time I finally got home I had totally forgotten about the meeting!!

I haven't had any plateaus to this point, so I didn't really have any specific questions for Dr. A.  I am glad to be able to read other's questions and Dr. A's responses so I will be armed and ready when I do hit one.

BTW, officially at DFW, we've had 7 inches of snow today.  Largest one-day snow total ever in Dallas-Ft Worth is 7.8 inches -- and it's still snowing.  Still a far cry from you guys up north, but pretty impressive to this native Texan!

Just checking in for this week. I am definitely stagnant on my weight loss but i know why and i know how to fix it-stay to the plan would be a starter. There were so many good tips on plateauing. I started exercising and i dont know if its the exercise or what but with exercising came cravings. I saw the Dr. advice about not eating enough between meals and/or skipping meals might cause cravings. So i will try to increase the veggies.

Thanks Dr.

I couldn't make the meeting but I read through all the posts. Good answers to good questions.
I think we're more uptight than Dr. A  is ...as far as SBD goes.....We need to RELAX and just do it. That's my take on the meeting.

Hi Jayne,

I think "just doing it" is a great mantra.  I always love Dr. Agatston's style -- it's all about healthy, whole foods eaten in moderation.  Once we can figure out what "moderation" is, we should be good to go.  For me, I had to be "strict" and "rigid" in the beginning of this journey because my idea of healthy and balanced portions were all out of whack.  After eating this way for close to 9 years now, I can relax and just do it.  It's a learning curve for all of us.

Glad to see you here -- I just read through the chat because I was working flat out yesterday.

Hi Linda,

You are so right. There is a definite learning curve when it comes to SBD. What's so good about it is the support on the boards. I may go several days without posting anything, but I promise you this, I don't miss a day reading them. It keeps me focused.

I do journal my food. It keeps me on my toes and my eyes on my goal..to be healthy.

I found Dr. Agatston's answers to the questions that were posed to him, answered in a concise and logical manner. He also had a soothing way of presenting the answers to some of our "bumps in the road."  I think that's why I got out of it "relax and just do it." I know  it's not that easy. It's a challenge and a puzzle and I like both!

btw- he had me at dark chocolate!--lol

Oh, yes!  He is notorious for the chocolate, and I think that's why I ended up choosing to go with this program -- anybody that allows dark chocolate on a diet is a hero in my book!

I also love his laid-back, easy-going style of answering and the fact that he understands how difficult the whole weight loss/management thing is.  I can imagine that his patients love him because of how much he cares.  I admire his passion about science and his drive to figure out how to overcome the obesity epidemic.  He's doing a lot with child nutrition in schools too.

I always enjoy your posts, Jayne!

This was a good thread and unfortunately I forgot about the meeting too but at least it was because I was working out on my WI FIT.   I especially like the thought about monitoring cravings after vacation and going back to P1 if necessary.  I have a big vacation coming up and although I intend to eat as SB friendly as possible, I am planning on having alcohol at limits more than SBD recommends so not sure other possible weight gain the effect it will have on me.

Hi,
I've been reading all the threads and really appreciated this one.  He is really laid back and I loved all the good effects he found on dark chocolate. Have lost 3 pounds since starting and not regaining.  My hubby is going down down down was 314 and now 290 on this diet and no exercise except work which is active. I struggle to exercise and cook and eat well and go so slow but know I'm going the right way. I love the chocolate and overdo more than the occasional treat so there I have it! Thanks so much for organizing and monitoring the messages and helping so many persons. I appreciate all that you do Marilyn. Cindy
